Queensland Homes Magazine speaks with Lloyd Hodgkinson, Owner and Head Designer for Oliver Mark Interiors, about his dream project and the clients who made that dream a reality.
For any interior designer, being involved in a project from construction planning right through to selection of furniture, fabrics, wall coverings and accessories for the finished project is the ultimate rewarding experience. Thus, Lloyd considers this Cairn’s commission an absolute delight from the very beginning.
Lloyd’s brief was to create a new Master Suite for the owners, comprising a bedroom, ensuite, walk-in robe and kitchenette. The home traverses a hilltop site. Elevated construction was the only way to create additional space for owners to truly enjoy their spectacular 180° views out to the north Queensland Coral Sea. As Lloyd says, “This was a dream project from concept to completion”.
“MY CLIENTS GAVE ME FULL CONTROL OF ALL BUILDING WORKS, LAYOUT DESIGN, CABINETRY DESIGN AND FINISHES, RIGHT THROUGH TO SELECTING AND SUPPLYING THE FURNISHINGS.”
“LLOYD RELISHED THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE A SIGNATURE RETREAT THAT HIS CLIENTS DESERVED AND WOULD THOROUGHLY ENJOY”
The use of light and unobtrusive window treatments takes full advantage of the natural light, creating a space that accentuates the calm and peace of the hilltop position, as requested by the client. In the bedroom, a textured wallpaper in soft aquamarine together with charcoal art-works and bronze sculptures create a sense of calm while a black and gold chest of drawers with a gold starburst mirror above punctuates the space with dramatic effect.
An enviable-sized ensuite completes this beautiful addition to the home. The ensuite comprises the very best of finishes and a stand-alone bathtub is strategically positioned to take full advantage of the spectacular view creating a space that pleases the senses.
